How to Get a Bank Statement: Online, App, and In-Branch Options

How to Get a Bank Statement: Online, App, and In-Branch Options

A bank statement is an official record of all transactions in your account over a specific period — usually one month. Most people need one at some point: applying for a mortgage, filing taxes, tracking expenses, or proving income to a landlord.

The good news: getting your bank statement takes less than two minutes once you know where to look. Here's how to do it from any US bank.

How to Get a Bank Statement Online

Online banking is the fastest way to access your statements. The steps are nearly identical across all major US banks:

  1. Log in to your bank's website
  2. Navigate to Accounts or Account Summary
  3. Select the account you need the statement for
  4. Look for a tab or link labeled Statements, Documents, or eStatements
  5. Choose the statement period (month and year)
  6. Click Download or View — most banks provide a PDF

Major Bank Statement Portals

  • Chase: Sign in → Accounts → [select account] → Statements
  • Bank of America: Sign in → Accounts → Statements & Documents
  • Wells Fargo: Sign in → Accounts → Statements & Documents
  • Citibank: Sign in → Account Details → Statements
  • Capital One: Sign in → [select account] → Statements
  • TD Bank: Sign in → Accounts → Statements
  • PNC Bank: Sign in → Account Activity → Statements

Most banks keep 12–24 months of statements available online at no charge. For older statements, you may need to contact your bank directly — some charge a fee for records older than two years.

How to Get a Bank Statement on a Mobile App

Every major US bank has a mobile app, and all of them include statement access:

  1. Open your bank's app and sign in
  2. Tap on the account you need
  3. Look for Statements, Documents, or a document icon
  4. Select the period you need
  5. Tap Download or Share to save the PDF

Mobile statements are identical to online statements — same document, same format. If you need to email or upload the statement somewhere, the Share option lets you send it directly from your phone.

How to Request a Paper Statement

If you prefer paper statements or need a physical copy mailed to you:

  • Call your bank's customer service line — the number is on the back of your debit card
  • Visit a branch and ask a teller or personal banker
  • Most banks can print a statement in-branch for free or a small fee

Note: many banks have switched customers to paperless statements by default. If you're not receiving monthly paper statements, check your account preferences online and opt back in if needed.

What If You Need an Official Stamped Statement?

Some purposes — visa applications, certain loan types, or legal proceedings — require an official stamped statement rather than a self-downloaded PDF.

For these, you'll need to:

  1. Visit your bank branch in person
  2. Ask a banker to print and stamp a certified statement
  3. Expect a fee of $5–$25 depending on the bank and how many months you need

Call ahead to confirm your branch can provide this and whether you need an appointment.

What to Do With Your Bank Statement

Once you have your statement PDF, you'll likely want to work with the transaction data — sorting, filtering, or importing it into accounting software.

Bank statement PDFs aren't designed for data analysis. If you need to:

  • Track spending by category — export to CSV and use Excel or Google Sheets
  • Reconcile accounts — import into QuickBooks, Xero, or FreshBooks
  • Prepare for tax season — convert to spreadsheet and categorize deductions

Statement PDF Converter converts any US bank statement PDF into a clean CSV or Excel file in seconds, with every transaction properly structured. See how to convert your bank statement PDF to CSV for the complete process, or how to import the CSV into Excel once you have it.
